Descripción : The article analyzed the contribution of rural teachers to the processes of vindication of the indigenous people in Ecuador. Starting from the ethnographic approach to the indigenous communities of Chimborazo and to the testimony of the elderly. From the outset, it described the social situation of the indigenous people in the era corresponding to the 1940s -1980s, then points out the creation of rural schools and the contribution of teachers to indigenous base organizations. The purpose of this article was to pay tribute to the chimboracense teacher, Carlos Loza, on the occasion of his retirement from the National University of Chimborazo.
